Edited April 2014 from facsimile transmission dated May 2006
Good morning Doctor. As per your request from my previous appointment, here is the name of the optometrist I use. I have made another appointment with the optometrist to get another exam and discuss the evolving symptoms I shared with you.
I also wanted to update you on my current situation as my symptoms continue to be a struggle. I took this week off from work to do stuff around the house and see if the rest and time away from the monitors at work would help. Unfortunately, the problem persists although I was able to identify some patterns.
I feel quite fine when doing just about anything other than looking at a computer/tv screen. I can read books, do reno work, eat, rest, anything and it doesn’t aggravate my eyes at all. But within five minutes of sitting in front of a computer screen my eyes go buggy. The muscles around my eyes hurt for lack of a better word and my head will ache a bit. Now, if I only use the computer for fifteen minutes and then leave, the symptoms will regress fairly rapidly. But if I use the computer for an hour or so, then they persist for quite some time afterward.
As you can imagine, this is most unsettling since my livelihood depends on my using a computer screen a lot and I’m very worried that I’m both damaging my eyes and becoming incapable of doing my job!
And quite frankly, waiting until November to see an ophthalmologist is not really an option since I cannot continue work with these difficulties for another 6 months. Please call me if you would like me to come in again for another appointment or just to talk about the situation.
