A Crock of Schmidt

Single-handedly solving nothing

My Life Is A Song #32

Shoe Countdown #32

This guy is considered a legend in Canadian music.  I’ll be honest.  I’m not much of a fan.  Aside from this, admittedly the most famous song, I’ve just never been overly enamored with his message rock.  Sorry, but only in Canada could a song called “If I Had A Rocket Launcher” be a hit.  That being said, if you’re going to impress me with only one song, this is a great one to do it with.  Besides, “gotta kick at the darkness ’til it bleeds daylight” is truly one of the greatest lyrics ever.

I’ll admit The Barenaked Ladies did an admirable cover version of this Canadian classic, but the original still reigns supreme.  I’m kicking off the weekend with Bruce Cockburn’s greatest song, “Lovers in a Dangerous Time” from Stealing Fire released in 1984.
