Whether standing atop the watchtower reaching for the purple haze or wondering if you’re experienced enough to approach the foxy lady dancing like a voodoo chile alone on the dance floor, everybody loves Jimi Hendrix. My wife clearly does. I know; Hendrix and Van Halen, who’d a thunk.
I don’t have a great or even mediocre story to share regarding this song. It’s simply my favourite Hendrix song. I’m a fan, but hardly an aficionado. I appreciate his legend but the cynic in me wonders what horrors he might have recorded had he been born with whatever freak genes Keith Richards has.
Once I got past the “Purple Haze” and “Hey Joe” lust period when first introduced to Hendrix, I quickly found that this was by far my favourite tune. I’m kicking off this weekend with “Crosstown Traffic” from the legendary 1968 Jimi Hendrix Experience album Electric Ladyland.
