A Crock of Schmidt

Single-handedly solving nothing

My Life Is A Song #89

Prelude Countdown #89

Is there anything better than cock rock bands channeling their inner classical musician?  Sure, The Beatles did the whole strings section thing and made rock music dignified, but when a cheesy hard rock band does it the results are truly magical.  Giggle-worthy, yes, but magical.

Now, if that band happens to be a relatively obscure Canadian band that few people under 40 know about, few people over 40 remember, and few people outside Southern Ontario ever heard, that magic reaches stratospheric heights of awesome.  Goddo is just that band and this song with its three minute orchestral introduction before breaking out into a straight forward guitar riff rocker is a treasure of Cancon.

I’m sending you off into the New Year weekend with a lost gem of Canadian rock.  I give you “Anacanapanacana/So Walk On” by Goddo from the 1979 album An Act of Goddo.

Another band that didn’t get airtime in the US; it’s fun hearing them. Kind of reminded a bit of Moody Blues.

Instead you got Bieber, Celine, and Nickelback.
