A Crock of Schmidt

Single-handedly solving nothing

My First Car Becomes My First Published Work

March 2, 2018 by acrockofschmidt 1 Comment

I got published!

Okay, okay, let’s not get too excited here.  This wasn’t a professional gig by any stretch.  I didn’t get paid in cash, though I suppose a free copy and one year subscription is better than the ubiquitous “exposure”.  Nonetheless, something I wrote is forever captured in the printed pages of a genuine, nationally distributed magazine.  My words will be entertaining folks in the waiting rooms of doctor and dentist offices for years to come.

What’s even better is that I have permission to share my submission with you.  Our Canada (and More Our Canada) are magazines published by the Reader’s Digest company and are created entirely from reader submissions from folks like you and I.  After perusing a few back issues, one particular section of the magazine struck me as something I could probably do well enough.  That was the Wheels section where folks share stories about vehicles that have been a special part of their life.  I figured I had the perfect story in my first car and wrote up a piece and sent it in to Our Canada.  Sure enough, they responded in short order and said they’d love to publish it.

The March 2018 issue contains my piece.  Now, the magazine doesn’t have it’s own, dedicated website but they do have an active Facebook page which I encourage you to check out (click here).  Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that my article will be posted on the Facebook page so there was no easy way to share what I wrote short of taking you to the magazine shop and buying you a copy of the March issue.  You are more than welcome to do this on your own if you prefer.  You can even get me to sign it when we cross paths in the future.  An early signature from an as yet undiscovered literary giant will serve your retirement fund well.

If your faith in my future fame is lacking, you are welcome to read my submission here:

Oh my goodness! Incredible article dude! Thanks, However I am encountering issues with your RSS.
I don’t understand the reason why I can’t join it. Is there anybody having similar RSS issues?

Anyone that knows the solution can you kindly respond?
    Thanx!!
