It’s time for a humble brag about my blog. And believe me, anything involving my blog is most definitely humble. By comparison to truly successful bloggers, my forthcoming humble brag waffles somewhere between “how cute” and “sad cringe”. Still, my best year blogging ever is worthy of an audible whoop.
There’s no hyperbole in that statement, it really was my best year ever. In every way. A Crock of Schmidt’s sixth year was unlike any year prior. Not only were my annual views the highest ever, and by a substantial margin, but each of the twelve months reached record views as well.
Furthermore, my average daily views per month also set twelve new milestones resulting in my average daily views for the entire year surpassing the entirely irrelevant but psychologically rewarding round number of 100. My new benchmark is 102.
Psst. That’s where the sad cringe kicks in for the real bloggers reading this.
Making Money on my Blog!
The cherry on top of my 2019 blogging sundae was my very first payment from Google Adsense. Those ads adorning my lovely blog generate revenue; dollars worth for Google, pennies worth for me. It’s an excruciating grind for a humble wordsmith like myself since Google will not pay out balances below $100. It took an unconscionably long time for me to reach that magic number but in mid-2019 it finally happened. Boo yah! I only need to do it a dozen more times and my blog will finally break even!
Oof, more sad cringe.
After the unjustified expectations when I started out, to my hitting rock bottom in 2017 when I announced to the world that I quit, my blog statistics from 2019 feel like a damn victory. A small victory, to be sure, but one I’ll happily pat myself on the back for in the privacy of my own bathroom, thank you very much.
This reversal of fortune was so rewarding, in fact, that I started off 2020 not giving the slightest of fucks if the future proved my blog popularity peaked in 2019. I am satisfied. But then the streak continued in January and I’m now overcome with excitement at the potential for a slew of new records in 2020!
Like championships, there’s no greater feat than a repeat.
